CANDIRIA Get Jazzy Via Label Imprint
November 10, 2002According to CANDIRIA's official web site, the first jazz-oriented release on the group's own Coma imprint label, "Five Episodes From the Subconscious", features CANDIRIA's Mike MacIvor and John LaMacchia on bass and guitar respectively, and CANDIRIA drummer Ken Schalk on keyboards. Produced by CANDIRIA at Brooklyn New York's legendary Purple Light Studios, the record also features Thomas Cirillo on drums, Reginald Juste on percussion and vocalizations and Helen Yee on violin. The "Five Episodes" were recorded in several sessions "without a net"... there were no charts, no edits or overdubs and the record was mixed live by longtime CANDIRIA collaborator Mike Barile. The disc was given its sparkling sheen by mastering engineer John Shyloski at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, Connecticut, who have won several Grammies for their jazz work. The 12 panel pull-out CD cover was designed by CANDIRIA's Ken Schalk. "Five Episodes" includes the titles "Blues for Armegeddon", "Richard Dreyfuss", "That Which Survives", "Chaos in the Middle of Perfectly Illogical Sense", and "Petrified Forrest", as well as an untitled "subconscious" track. The record times out to 59:30 and is an "essential addition to the CANDIRIA discography," according to the group's web site.
In other news, the five members of CANDIRIA and their road manager continue their long rehabilitation from September's near-fatal van accident. The prognosis is good that all will completely recover. The band has taken a hiatus from touring pending doctor's orders.
